Exam season can be very stressful for everybody, coping with exam stress using the correct defence mechanisms is very essential. You must cope with exam stress, it is important to have various strategies in place that can keep a person calm and focused. Exams play an important role in everybody’s life, be it a little kid or someone who is all grown up and appearing for competitive exams. Exam stress can lead to many physical and mental problems.

To deal with exam stress a few things are to be kept in mind. Many resources are required, that is meditation so one can stay calm, does not go through performance anxiety, preparation, preparation for exams is also a task, going through the syllabus,  calculating the time to finish an answer, studying the correct topics and most importantly starting the preparation at right time. People make timetables to manage their tasks, especially the ones preparing for medical, engineering and other such exams, making a timetable and following the timetable are two different things. But, to stick to your timetable, you need patience and dedication.

Coping up with stress in today’s era is a daunting task. Because children lack patience and have lesser attention span due to Covid-19. To build the attention span of children or even young adults, picking a sport and hobby is very important. As, lack of patience can lead to many things such as lashing out, misunderstandings, failed relationships and so on.

How stress is impacting our population?

According to new education policy, students have to appear for examination of 10th and 12th grade twice a year. Coping up with exam stress in younger children and younger adults utmost important and difficult. It can lead to various mental health as well as physical health problems such as high blood pressure, heart diseases, obesity and diabetes.

In Gujarat, ten people died due to heart attack while performing garba, the youngest was thirteen years old. To stay sane during any crisis, situation or exams management of everything is essential. Just the way our body plays various roles for various parts let our mind help us arrangement everything systematically because overthinking can lead to stress.

The Psychological findings

  • According to Generalised Anxiety Disorder, one tends to worry a lot, even when there is no reason to worry, it develops when we can not cope up with our internal stress. There are three stages in it.
  • Alarm stage, when the student knows his/her exams are around the corner.
  • Resistance stage, when the students is preparing for his/her exams, has adequate resources to cope up with exams and the stress of exams.
  • Exhaustion stage, when the resources are inadequate. But it only leads to exhaustion or we could say scoring less because preparation was not enough.

Staying positive plays an important role because it makes a big difference in how we handle stress.

One can stay positive by focusing on solutions, not dwelling on problems, by breaking down big task into smaller and manageable steps, prioritising yourself not exhausting yourself, rest if you can not focus for a while.
